Born September 25, 1931 in Justice, West Virginia, Rita Anderson died at her home in Mobile, Alabama on July 24, 2021. Her daughters are eternally grateful to Kindred Hospice for helping them keep their Mommy as comfortable and pain free as possible over the past three months.
Many words can be used to describe “The Rita,” but she would most likely prefer to be remembered as patriotic and creative. Most of us will also remember her as tough and hilarious. We miss her being in the next room, or just existing on this planet. But now, as she used to say, “That’s enough of that.”
Rita was preceded in death by her devoted spouse of 65 years, John Edward Anderson; her parents, Verlin and Tressie Walker; brother Zionel Walker; sisters Zenith Harless and Sylvia Murphy; and son-in-law Mark Swanson. Survivors include daughters Nyla Steadman of Pensacola, Florida and Jennifer Swanson of Mobile, Alabama; son John (Erna) Anderson of Powder Springs, Georgia; sister Sheila (Richard) Darlington of Indialantic, Florida; brother-in-law Gene (Joyce) Anderson of Fortuna, Missouri; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two carport cats.
Rita’s final resting place is beside her husband at Pine Crest West Cemetery on Snow Road in Mobile, Alabama.
