Priscilla Peavey, 77, of Mobile, peacefully passed away at Providence Hospital, Saturday May 25, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Her family was by her side at the time of her passing. Priscilla was born to the late William and Helen Morey January 17, 1936 in Westerly Rhode Island. She grew up in neighboring Pawcatuck Connecticut, where she attended West Broad Street Elementary School, and Stonington High School. After graduating from high school, Priscilla furthered her education at the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence Rhode Island.
Priscilla married her husband, Robert Peavey on October 5, 1957 in Westerly Rhode Island. They lived in Rhode Island, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Alabama, returning to Mobile for a second time in 1977, where she lived until the time of her death.
Priscilla worked at St. Luke's Episcopal School as Secretary to the Headmaster, before joining First National Bank of Mobile, where she retired from AmSouth Bank in 1998.
Priscilla was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She was also instrumental, and served as co-chair, in having the Church Altar Kneelers replaced. This was a 10 year commitment on a Volunteer basis. All of the Kneelers were crafted by hand through the art of Needlepoint, and represent "Creation." Priscilla also loved to knit, creating sweaters, socks, and scarves of vibrant colors for friends and family to enjoy. She volunteered in the Gift Shop at Providence Hospital, assisting customers with their requests, wrapping gifts, and finishing each one with a special bow made by hand. Priscilla loved to play Bridge, and this is what she did every Wednesday afternoon, with a close knit group of very dear friends. She did not travel much but did enjoy long weekends on Lake Martin, and cheering on the Auburn Tigers during Football Season.
Priscilla is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert of Mobile; daughter Leah Peavey of Mobile; son Scott Peavey of Tampa; sisters Suzanne Morey Hatchell of Strongsville OH, and Sharon Handin of Albany NY. She also leaves behind twelve nieces and nephews, nine grand niece's and grand nephews, and her beloved yellow Labrador Retriever Abbey, who misses her dearly.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will take place in August at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
