CMSGT. Peter Leonardis, USAF Ret. – a 94-year-old native of Summit, NJ, longtime resident of Mobile, AL, and recent resident of Archer, FL passed away on December 23, 2022. Mr. Leonardis retired from the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after 20 years of service, during which time he served in World War II, in the Korean War, and as an air traffic controller during the Berlin Airlift. After his retirement, he worked and for the City of Mobile as an air traffic controller and as a pilot for the mobile Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Leonardis was also a parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and member of a local mystic society. He was a wonderful husband, father, and family man. He was a man who never knew a stranger. He lived by the saying, “Keep a smile on your face and love in your heart and everything will be alright.”
Mr. Leonardis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jutta Leonardis, and daughter, Lucia Leonardis Morber. He is survived by two children, Jane Maddan (Robert) and Pamela Leonardis Lynch (Michael); grandchildren, Joseph Maddan (Michelle), Clarice Rhodes, Manija Torian, Shaun Garland (Ashley), Amanda Lynch Edenfield (David), and Jennifer Lynch Caldwell (Andrew); great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Friday, January 13, 2023, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with the Reverend W. Bry Shields serving as Celebrant of the Mass. Interment will follow in the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or to a charity of your choice.
