Norman Douglas Carson

Norman D. “Kit” Carson – Born on November 21, 1920, in Jefferson County, AL near Birmingham, a resident of Mobile, died Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his son, Whit Carson; and his grandson, Brad Colson. Mr. Carson, a long standing member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Mobile, is survived by his loving wife, Anne Whitney Carson; his daughter, Sally and son-in-law, Howard Jenkins of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Jamie Colson; great-granddaughter, Anna Grace Colson; his sister, Mrs. Carl Hosey “Dodie” of Birmingham; nieces and nephews of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Mr. “Kit” was a graduate of Jones Valley High School in Birmingham and attended Birmingham Southern College and the University of Alabama. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School, Ft. Benning, GA, and served as Second Lt, U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Carson later retired from Durr Drug Company of Mobile as a Sales Representative and later retired from Walker Drug of Birmingham. He was the ultimate salesman with a quick wit and innate ability to connect personally with his customers, the independent pharmacy owners and hospitals. “Kit” was a keen and avid gardener who enjoyed his work and shared his gardening knowledge with many. He was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in Howard Lodge #69, F & AM on the 13th day of July, 1982. Kit’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cameron and his staff at the Mitchell Cancer Institute for their loving care and concern for Kit. Thanks also to the wonderful nurses at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center for their very special loving care. Funeral services will be held from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1050 Azalea Rd., Mobile, AL 36693, on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 7011 Fulton Ct., Montgomery, AL 36117.
