Born June 9, 1930, died Tuesday January 24, 2017 at the age of 86. She was born Norma Elizabeth Hayes, the only child of William Tollie Hayes and Ada Beatrice Adams Hayes. She was born and raised in Birmingham, AL.
After graduating from high school, she enrolled at the University of Alabama. Her fondest memory while at the university was her dorm room at Tutwiller Hall being located directly across from Denny Chimes. She cherished her Alma Matter. She received her Bachelors in 1955 and began working with the Dallas County Extension Service.
While visiting her parents, who had moved to Maplesville, AL, at their full service gas station, a handsome young Airman with the United States Air Force stationed at Maxwell in Montgomery came in with a flat tire- which she changed for him. They began dating and she married Connie Palmer in March 1958. He died June 2, 1973. During their marriage they had four children- 3 daughters, Debbie (Chris Portella), Pam (deceased October 11, 2015) Leigh (Roger Carper) and 1 son, Chris.
She worked as a Dietician for Morrison Food Service for 30 years at various schools and industrial plants in Mobile County. After retiring she began another career with The Alba Hunting and Fishing Club where she retired for a second time in 2008.
Her most favorite things in life were listening to Elvis and watching Alabama football, Roll Tide!
The family would like to make a special acknowledgement to the staff at Lynwood Nursing Home for all their attention and care and to their family and many friends for all their support and love during the past 2 years.
