Melissa "Lisa" Reed Weaver

Melissa “Lisa” Reed Weaver, 60, went to be in the arms of the Lord on Friday, August 11, 2023. Lisa was born to Emmett Van Reed and Lois Horton Reed on July 23, 1963 in Mobile, Alabama, and was a life-long resident. She graduated from Baker High School, and was a majorette for the high school’s band. Lisa met and married the love of her life, Van A. Weaver, and spent 41 wonderful years with him. From that union, they had two daughters: Ashley and Lauren. Her daughters were her entire world (at least until her grandchildren came along), and Lisa was very active in her daughters’ extracurricular activities, as well as their school lives. Lisa was a crossing-guard for the Mobile County School System for 17 years, and worked for Pine Crest Cemetery for 23 years. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

There is no other creature on earth who would jump at the opportunity to go on a cruise faster than Lisa Weaver. And it wasn’t just cruises: Lisa loved to travel. Especially with her family. She would hop in the car or on a plane and head to dance competitions with her daughter Lauren, or just find a beach getaway for a weekend. Those weekends were NOT during Alabama Football season, however, because Lisa was a huge fan and would hardly choose to miss a game. Lisa loved to shop, and was quite the shark with coupons. She could walk into CVS, clear half of the shelves, and walk out paying 27 cents. Out of everything Lisa was, she was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She was so proud of her family, and always enjoyed the time she spent with them. Lisa instilled good values, and bestowed an unconditional love to those around her. One has to only sit in a room with her family, and the love they have for her is tangible.

It can be argued that Lisa had one of the most nurturing and generous souls ever created. She was a walking contradiction: Lisa was the perfect embodiment of no-nonsense, yet never took herself too seriously, and never backed away from an opportunity to love someone, or take them under her wing. She never backed away from a challenge, unless it involved a ladder, and she had the uncanny ability to make everyone around her feel important. Lisa had no problem telling you up from down, but she did it in a manner that provoked confidence in one’s next endeavor. Her family, friends, coworkers, and anyone who ever had a conversation with her will never forget her, and will greatly miss her.

Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Emmett Van Reed; and one nephew, B.J. Reed.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Van A. Weaver; mother, Lois Elizabeth Horton Reed; two daughters, Ashley (Ricky) Ziebach and Lauren (Michael) McDowell; three grandchildren, which she loved with her whole heart: Cooper, Ava, and Mia; her brother, Ronnie (Jeanie) Reed; as well as a host of other cherished family and friends.

Visitation for Lisa will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West.
