Matthew Daniel McLeod passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7th surrounded by his family, after an 11-month battle with cancer. Matthew was born on October 1, 1956 and raised in Mobile, AL by his parents Cathryn Irene Crane and Daniel George McLeod. He graduated from the University of South Alabama with a degree in Criminal Justice and was employed at Teledyne Continental Motors for many years. Matthew’s greatest joy in life was being a devoted husband of 30 years to his wife, Donna, and a loving father to his daughter, Skye. The Blue Ridge Mountains were Matthew’s favorite place to be, and he considered Blowing Rock, North Carolina his most cherished and peaceful haven. A history buff, Matthew enjoyed researching his Scottish and Norwegian heritage, and was proud of his Viking lineage. Another lifelong passion of Matthew’s was the Pittsburgh Steelers—he could often be found wearing his Jack Lambert (#58) jersey and was waving a Terrible Towel until the end.
Matthew is survived by his wife Donna Pappas McLeod, daughter Skye McLeod Willen, son-in-law Bryce Willen, Aunt Marie, and beloved pet dog, Chloe. He is also survived by his three siblings Kate, Jonathan, and Genevieve.
A Memorial Visitation for Matthew will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 12th from 5 – 7 in the evening.
