Mary "Molly" Sommerville Hitchcock, age 90, native of Greensboro, Alabama, and former resident of Selma, died in Mobile, Alabama on Friday, July 12, 2024 at peace and thankful for a joyous and magical life. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Denis Michael Hitchcock.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Burton Sommerville and Fanny Erwin Sommerville, her sister, Fanny Sommerville Cleveland, and cousin, William Harrell Sommerville. She leaves behind cherished cousins, Margaret Fulton Livingston (Willard) and Molly Crowne Nordmann (Rudy) of Mobile, and Priscilla Day Inge (Fred Bram) of Hume, Virginia.
Molly attended Alabama College, Montevallo and worked abroad for many years for the U.S. Government. She subsequently retired in 1994 as Government Account Executive, Chrysler Corporation, Washington, D.C.
Always interested in genealogy, she was a member of The Jamestowne Society, the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Colonial Dames XVII Century and the Daughters of the American Revolution. A life-long Episcopalian, she was a member of St Paul's Episcopal Church.
A private graveside service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Church Memorial Fund, St Paul's Episcopal Church, 4051 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL 36608 or to a charity of your choice.
