Rev. Marvin E. Thompson, born July 18, 1929 in Wesson, MS, and longtime resident of Wilmer, AL passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Rev. Thompson graduated from Murphy High School, and attended Luther Rice Seminary. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Called into the Ministry in 1968, Rev. Thompson pastored for 40 years-churches in Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, and writing Christian books, and was a military historian. Rev. Thompson was preceded in death by his father, Homer Thompson, and mother, Bernice Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anita Glo Thompson, his two daughters, Pamela (Hollis) Hallford, of Semmes, AL, and Paula (Larry) Harris, of Ellijay, GA, grandchildren, Stephanie (James) Jepko of Semmes, AL, CPT Trey (Katie) Majure of Ft. Bragg, NC, Jennifer Pouyadou of Birmingham, AL, Alex Pouyadou of Birmingham, AL, Stacey (Carl) Edwards of McGirk, MO, Shannon (Mitchell) Henderson of Lucedale, MS, Steven (Julie) Hass of Mobile, and Nick Harris of Tallahassee, FL, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 26, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Wilmer, AL, and from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, until the 11:00 funeral service, also at First Baptist Church of Wilmer. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Terry Glasscock. Interment will be in Wilmer Cemetery.
