Marion Partridge Johnson was born May 29, 1921 in Mobile, Alabama. She attended St Mary's School, and graduated from the Convent of the Visitation in 1939. Marion attended Georgetown Visitation Academy in Washington, D.C. during the 1939-1940 academic year. During World War II, Marion worked at the Hollingsworth and Whitney Mill, now part of Scott Paper Company. She was later employed for nearly 30 years in the purchasing department at Providence Hospital, retiring in the 1980s. In 1943 Marion married the late James Herbert Johnson. They were divorced in 1964. Marion was active in the Junior League of Mobile, and particularly enjoyed the League's volunteer community service work. After World War II, she began meeting with a Mobile social group known as the Sewing Club, and was active with them for over sixty years. She moved from Mobile to Fairhope in the mid-90s and was a member and volunteer at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Harry A. Partridge and Grace Druhan Partridge of Mobile; and by her brothers, Harry A. Partridge Jr. and John G. Partridge. She is survived by her four children: James H. Johnson, Jr. (Barbara) of Pensacola, Florida; Grace Johnson Allen (Ron) of Fairhope; Harry P. Johnson (Alissa) of Fairhope; and Anne J. Johnson (Rodger French) of Fairhope, currently stationed in Argentina. Marion is survived by eight grandchildren: James Herbert Johnson, III of Los Angeles, California; Sarah Johnson Behnke of Pensacola; Bridget Johnson Sharpe of Seattle, Washington; Ashley Allen Myers of Richmond, Virginia; Courtney Allen of Fairhope, Conner Floyd of Fairhope, Emily Johnson of New Orleans, Louisiana; Katherine Johnson of Fairhope; and by five great-grandchildren. Marion is also survived by her sister Eleanor Cummings Nelson of Mobile; and brothers James D. Partridge of Lillian, Alabama, and D. Ross Partridge of Fairhope. Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mobile, Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 11:00am. Visitation will be at St. Mary's starting at 10:00am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be given to the Visitation Monastery or Covenant Hospice Care.
