Lora Wilma Clark Simmons was a native of Mississippi and resident of Mobile, Alabama for sixty-three years. Mrs. Simmons passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, one week short of her 96th birthday. She was born Friday, November 12, 1926, in Houlka, Mississippi, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pleasant Clark.
Mrs. Simmons came to Mobile in August, 1958. She and her husband, Alvin, were married for forty-nine years. She retired from Regions Bank after twenty-six years of faithful service.
Mrs. Simmons was an active member of the Regency Church of Christ. With an endearing spirit and a strong faith, she lived a life of service to others. She was known for her infamous seafood gumbo, enjoyed by family and friends and her chocolate chip pound cakes, numbering in the hundreds, were coveted by all who knew her.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pleasant Clark, her beloved husband; Alvin Travis Simmons, Jr., a sister; Thelma Clark Doty, a brother; Ronald Clark, and a sister-in-law; Dorothy Simmons Zorn.
Left to cherish Lora’s beautiful memories will be niece; Gail Maddux (Lee) of Nashville, Tennessee, nephew; Dr. Walter Jeffries Doty III (Martha) of Dothan, Alabama, niece; Dr. Lynn Kirkland (Bernie) of Birmingham, Alabama, niece; Laurabeth Sawyer (Chris) Hattiesburg, Mississippi, niece; Judy Cook (Willie) Fulton, Mississippi, nephew; Scott Clark (Barbara) of Coushatta, Louisiana, sister-in-law; Chris Clark of Bruce, Mississippi, along with extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Maddux, Bernie Kirkland, Chris Sawyer, Ronnie Albert, and the Elders of the Regency Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made in honor of Lora Wilma Clark Simmons to The Alzheimer’s Association Research Fund, Mobile Christian School, or any charity of your choice.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the Caring Community of the Fair Haven Retirement Center and the loving staff of Angie’s Sitting Service for the friendships built, and the care provided.
The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama from 10-11am on Thursday, November 10th, with funeral services to follow in the chapel at Radney's from 11am-12pm. Burial will follow at the Magnolia Cemetery, 1202 Virginia Street, Mobile, AL 36660. Remarks and remembrances will be conducted by Bro. Allan Eldridge from the Regency Church of Christ.
