John Dudley Terrell Jr.

John Dudley Terrell, Jr., age 91 a native and lifelong resident of Mobile passed away on February 21, 2013. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Annunziata Amis Terrell; his three children, Liz (Max) Reed, John (Julie) Terrell, III and Kathleen (Robert) Greer; his 10 grandchildren, Olivia, Elizabeth and Jack Terrell, Meg, Max and Marie Reed, Les Buerger, Katie Greer Tillman, Sara and Rob Greer; his brother, Dr. Dudley Joseph (Barbara) Terrell, sister, Mary Ann Stadther and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Terrell was preceded in death by his mother and father, John Dudley Terrell and Kathleen Groom Terrell; his brothers Frank, Thomas, Anthony, and Pat Terrell; his sisters, Helen Terrell Pollman and Kathleen Terrell Smith. Born and raised in Mobile, Mr. Terrell attended Springhill High School, graduated from McGill Institute, and attended Springhill College. During World War II, Mr. Terrell served as a lieutenant in the European Theater of Operations with the Army Air Corps. He was a B24 Liberator combat pilot and flew 51 combat missions. He participated in three major battles; Air Offensive Europe, Rome-Arno and Normandy. Mr. Terrell received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the European Theater Medal with three Bronze Stars. After serving in the Army Air Corps, Mr. Terrell became an Independent Insurance Agent. He worked a number of years with his own agency, Robertson, Grove and Terrell Agency before joining W.K.P. Wilson and Son’s Inc. Mr. Terrell earned the Chartered Property Casual Underwriter (CPCU) designation. After he retired from W.K.P. Wilson, Mr. Terrell joined TriCorp, Inc. and worked there for several years until his retirement. Mr. Terrell was a longtime member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He was also a member of numerous local organizations including several mystic societies. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends at the Marian Center one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow in Catholic Cemetery in Mobile. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604 or your favorite charity.
