James Curtis Gill, born February 3, 1948 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, passed away on April 20, 2024 after a short illness surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband and father. He worked at International Paper for 32 years in Mobile, Alabama until 1999 and spent the last 26 years as a vendor at the Mobile Flea Market where he sold plants that he and his wife, Betty, along with their son Paul, grew and nurtured at their nursery in Lucedale, Mississippi. His greatest joy was spending time with his family at his farm where he lived for the past 23 years. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild, Maci.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Betty Carolyn Gill with whom he shared 57 wonderful years, and his sons, James Gill, Jr. (Beth) and Paul Gill, as well as three grandchildren, Matthew Gill (Marissa), Allison Gill, and Rebecca Revillosa (Brayden), who were his pride and joy. He is survived by three sisters, Hilda Ward (Gene), Reba Nipper, and Wilda Jackson, and his beloved cat, Tater Tot. He leaves behind many friends and countless customers who touched his life as much as he touched their lives.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Matthew Gill, and his mother Eleanor Breness Gill, and his brothers, Glenn, Earl, Elton, and Robert Gill, as well as his sister Bonita Conner.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
