Mr. Harry Lee Wilber, known affectionately as Harry to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama. Born on June 13, 1947, to Alfred and Ruth Wilber, Harry's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to service, a loving heart, and a kind spirit that touched all who knew him.
Harry's life was one of dedication and honor. As a young man, he proudly served his country as a member of the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, later transitioning to the reserves with the 226th Signal Battalion, from which he retired. His military career imbued in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Harry continued to lead by example in his civilian life, retiring as a respected foreman from GAF Corporation.
Beyond his professional achievements, Harry was a pillar in his community. His passion for helping others shone brightly through his volunteer work. Harry devoted countless hours to tutoring children at Old Shell Road School, believing firmly in the power of education and the potential of every child. He also served his community through Meals on Wheels at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church and lent a helping hand at Open Doors Thrift Store. His selfless nature made him a beloved figure, and his impact on the lives he touched will be felt for generations.
Harry's family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 54 years, Louise Wilber. Together, they raised two sons, Thomas Lee Wilber and Michael James Wilber (Meg), who inherited their father's strength and compassion. Harry also leaves behind his loving sister Diana Begue (Brian), and brothers David Wilber (Marty) and Samuel Michael Wilber (Renee). Grandchildren Ann and Carson Wilber, who are the children of Michael and Meg. His extended family, including stepsiblings, and a host of friends family, and the students that he tutored, will remember Harry as the embodiment of love and kindness.
