Diana S. Whitehead loving mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully May 4, 2021 following an extended illness which she fought with courage and tenacity. Diana was born on August 11, 1939 in Poplarville, MS. to James Herschel and Rubinette Eldridge Stewart.
Diana earned her BA in history from The University of Southern Mississippi. While at Southern Miss she was a Dixie Darling, ATO sweetheart and Honors Council member. Diana’s greatest talent was her beautiful voice. She played many leading roles in musical productions while at Southern Miss. She also sang in several operas in New York City. After moving to Mobile, Al in she joined Dauphin Way United Methodist church where she shared her beautiful voice as a member of the church choir. She was also active with meals on wheels, Dumas Wesley, children’s programs and others.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Herschel (Slick) Stewart, her mother Rubinette Eldridge Stewart and her brother Michael Fulman Stewart.
She is survived by her brother James Herschel Stewart Jr. and her three children; Stephanie Whitehead Jackson (Dan), Walter Kevin Whitehead (Cara) and Marc Scott Whitehead (Laura); six grandchildren Sidney Warren Jackson IV (Lysa), Dianna Katharine (Anna Kate) Jackson Meter (Adam), Walter Collin Whitehead, Sara Katherine Whitehead, Marc Stewart Whitehead and Elizabeth Radcliff Whitehead.
Visitation will be held at Dauphin Way United Methodist at 9:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Poplarville City Cemetery at 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to McKemie Place, 913 Broad St., Mobile, AL. 36603, Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, Dumas Wesley or Open Doors in Mobile AL.
