Dr. Douglas A. Wagner

Dr. Douglas A. Wagner, age 32, died on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas. Friends and family are invited to gather at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Friday, December 22, for visitation starting at 3 PM. A memorial service will begin at 4 PM. After the service, a reception will be held at Herb Wagner's home.

Douglas was born in Mobile, AL, on December 14, 1990, to Catherine Watson Wagner and Herbert A. Wagner. He graduated from Murphy High School in 2009 and then attended the University of South Alabama (USA), where he received a BS in Mathematics and Statistics with a minor in Physics in 2013. He then achieved a MS in Mathematics in 2015 from USA. His thesis is titled Energy and Distribution of Leja Sequences on Compact Sets. In 2021, he earned his PhD in Mathematics at Texas Christian University (TCU), where he distinguished himself in the TCU Math Club, Society of Physics Students, Videogame Development Club, Bryson Arts Society, ArtOrg, TCU Philosophy Club, Arbiters and traveled to Germany to share his work. His dissertation is titled C*- Algebras of Orbit Closures, Then Decomposition of Nuclear Maps. He then worked as a mathematics tutor, inspiring students to love math. We are proud of his problem-solving and hard work. He was held in high regard because of his deep and original thought, and his ability to create uniquely designed mathematical algorithms.

Douglas had a devotion to learning and a knack for creative problem-solving. He was appreciated for his critical, analytical, comedic, and philosophical personality. While away from mathematics, he taught himself how to create graphic designs and webcomics. He also enjoyed playing video games and tabletop roleplaying games; reading books, comics, and online forums; and delighted in both informative and humorous videos. He was known for his love of the color orange. He chose his appearance based on what he liked and what he found comfortable, despite how others would judge him. He was proud that he never shaved or trimmed his beard, and he almost always wore an orange T-shirt with a breast pocket, navy cargo shorts, and, for a time, chemistry goggles around his neck.

Douglas is survived by his parents, his brother Will Wagner and his wife, Mina Momeni of Birmingham, AL; his sister Caroline Wagner and her husband, Dan Simborg, her daughter Julia Wright (18) of Forestville, CA; and his sister Casey (Wagner) Golden and her husband, Blake Golden, their children, Luke (7) and Jimmy (5) of Seattle, WA. Also, Douglas is survived by his godmother and Aunt Elaine Wagner, Aunt Mandy Wagner, Uncle Carl (Cathy) Wagner, Uncle Walter Bower, Aunt Patricia Wagner, Uncle Brian Watson, Uncle Doug Watson, Aunt Cindy Watson, Aunt Janice Kersten, Aunt Gail Walton, Uncle Dennis (Paula) Watson, and Grandmother Nan Watson along with numerous dear cousins. Dr. Wagner is preceded in death by Grandfather James Watson, Aunt Loretta Bower, Uncles Joe Wagner, Christopher Wagner, and Art Kersten.

The family is grateful for Douglas' friends and mentors for the extraordinary support and love throughout his life and all the friends and family for their care during this difficult time.
