Dorothy Edna “Dot” Jordan Eggers – passed away at her home in Mobile, AL on June 7, 2012. She was born on December 1, 1926, near Downsville, LA. Her childhood was spent around Monroe, LA. Orphaned at age 13, she lived at Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home until she enrolled in Louisiana College under a scholarship, becoming the first girl from LBCH to attend college. While majoring in education at Louisiana College, she was named Homecoming Queen and Campus Beauty. She became engaged to Earl M. Eggers, and they were married on January 21, 1949. Dorothy taught elementary school in Lake Charles, LA, and then moved with Earl to New Orleans where he attended LSU Medical School. They lived successively in Columbus OH, Lansing, MI, Detroit, MI, and Natchez, MS before arriving in Mobile in 1961. Dorothy enjoyed singing early in her life and had a lifelong love of music. As the mother of eight children, she was a devoted homemaker who spent countless hours at PTA meetings, Little League games, music and dance lessons, Cub Scout meetings as a den mother, GA classes, church choir and Sunday school activities. She was a longtime member of P.E.O., Chapter L, and an active member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church. Dorothy dearly loved and appreciated her numerous friends, especially Laura Kominek, Phyllis Moore, Dot Chin, Ann Carson, and the members of her bridge club, including Beverly Fowlkes, Lurleen Steiner, Joyce Bailey, Jeanne Shackleford, Florence Coleman, Mary Frances Sullivan, and the Gideon sisters. Mrs. Eggers was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Jewel Aulds Jordan; sisters, Nina Young and Nellie Justice; and brother, Jimmie Jordan. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Earl M. Eggers, M.D. and her eight children: Larry Eggers (Geraldine), Jerry Eggers (Charlotte), Dennis Eggers (Denise), Billy Eggers (Pam), Jeannie Scott (John), Allan Eggers, Julie Martin (James), and Joy Levens. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Dinu; and one brother, Dennis Jordan (Yvonne). Funeral services will be held in the sanctuary of Christ United Methodist Church on Monday, June 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Spiller officiating. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Sunday, June 10, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
