Dorothy was a graduate of Murphy High School where she was the recipient of the DAR literature award. She attended Montevallo and the University of Alabama where she majored in journalism. A student of classical music, she enjoyed playing the violin and piano. She also enjoyed opera. Dorothy enjoyed foreign languages and was particularly fond of French. She also enjoyed literature, writing children's stories, and time spent with nieces and nephews. Although a resident of Mobile, she loved to travel and lived at various times in Montgomery, Louisville, St. Louis, and Memphis. She loved and enjoyed the company of pets, including her beloved Brownie, Beula, and Snowball.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Dave MacRae and his partners at West Mobile Medical Group and also to the countless health care providers at Gordon Oaks and Southern Care Hospice for their loving care and support to Dorothy.
Dorothy wished for a time when individuals and societies both would become personally and scientifically insightful, open minded, less prejudiced, and universally tolerant of thought, religion, culture, and politics. She was an educated and progressive woman of the world.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, February 7, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
