David Jones Cooper Jr., 44 years old, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Providence Hospital after many years of fighting complications from diabetes. David was born August 7, 1978 and graduated from UMS-Wright Preparatory School and Birmingham Southern College where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. David attended Innsbruck University in the summer of his sophomore year and traveled extensively throughout Europe. He loved to travel and spent time with families in Japan, China, and Korea. While in high school he loved working in the summers for Cooper-Wilkins Welding & Machine Company and Cooper/T. Smith Stevedoring while in college. After graduation David joined Cooper Restaurants where he eventually became President. David loved Mardi Gras and was a knight in the 2002 MCA Court before serving the City as King Felix in 2004. He was a member of five mystic societies and the Board of Directors of the Mobile Carnival Association. David also served on the board of the Child Advocacy Center and was an active volunteer on The Senior Bowl Committee. David was a member of Christ Church Cathedral. While struggling with complications from type 1 diabetes since he was 17 years old, David fought a good fight with multiple medical issues. David is survived by one son, David Cooper III, his parents Joanne and David Cooper Sr., sisters Ashleigh Cooper Leland (Mikell) and Margaret Cooper Biggs (Chad), aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. David loved his friends and especially the members of his CT Hunting Club and his two dogs, Scout and Alabama. There was a private family interment at the Cooper family farm in Rosinton, Alabama. There will be a celebration of life and memorial service at a later date.
