Cora "Lucile" Babcock Graham, age 99, of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022. At 7:04 am our family of FIVE generations became four. One day passed her 99th Birthday. She was at home and surrounded by family to celebrate her Birthday. She was showered with love and laughter. This sweet, independent, strong woman went to be in Heaven with those that left before her. Her loving family was by her side. Lucile was born August 18, 1923 in Citronelle, Alabama. She and her sister Catherine were the first set of twins born in Citronelle. Lucile and her family moved to Mobile in 1935. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1941. Lucile was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation she worked as a legal secretary. She married Robert H. Graham on April 28th, 1947 at Trinity Episcopal Church where she remained a lifelong member. She was a beloved caregiver to her 5 children, many grandchildren, and also cared for her mother while raising her children and later cared for her mother-in-law. She opened her home to numerous family members and friends in need. She was an amazing cook and was known for her "world famous" Gumbo. Lucile made dozens of wedding cakes for family member and friends. She was well known for her doll cakes. Although she never worked professionally as a seamstress, she made most of her children's and grandchildren's clothes. She loved to dress the children in matching outfits. She was the backbone of our family, she was everyone's Grandma, she was the glue that held us together. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Lucile is survived by her five children, Robert H. Graham, Jr., Sheila Ann West, Donald Eugene "Geno" Graham (Cathy), Frank Judson Graham, Judy Lucile Young, plus 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Lucile was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Howard Graham, Sr., parents, Judson Cary Babcock and Bessie Pearl Archbold Babcock, her twin sister, Catherine Stringer, brother, Judson C. Babcock, Jr., sister, Mable Pearl Babcock and two grandchildren, Kenneth Earl West and David Lee Graham.
Visitation for Mrs. Graham will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Mary Jayne Ledgerwood officiating. Interment will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brian West, Kevin West, Stephen Young, Zack Sawyer, Kyiah Graham and Avery Young.
