Charles (Charlie) Hinton of Mobile, Alabama passed away peacefully on September 25, 2018, at the age of 87. Charlie was born on January 17, 1931 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Thomas Briggs Hinton, Sr., and Lena Rose Hinton. As a child, he moved with his family to Mobile, Alabama. His siblings included Mary Emma Henry of Mobile, Alabama, Martha Sue Spinelli of Phoenix, Arizona, Thomas Briggs Hinton, Jr. of Coden, Alabama, Norma Jane Hinton of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Joseph Clay Hinton of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Charlie graduated from McGill Institute in 1949. He was an active businessman in Mobile and worked as a salesman at Swift Packing Company and Haas Davis Packing Company prior to founding Hinton Beef & Provision Company in 1973. He retired from Hinton Beef & Provision Company in 1991.
In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, spending time on Dog River and Halls Mill Creek, tinkering around the house and cutting grass, and spending time with his family. In his later years, he cherished Saturday morning breakfast with his close friends, including Lowell Harrelson and Thomas (Tommy) Marr.
Charlie is survived by his sister, Martha Sue Spinelli, his brother, Thomas Briggs Hinton, Jr., his children, Sharon (& Bob) Anderson, Charles (Chuck) Hinton, Jr., Joseph (Joe) Hinton and Dane (& Molly) Hinton; his grandchildren, Angela (& Chase) Baldwin, Joseph (Joey) Lulue and his great grandchild, Ben Baldwin. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Briggs, Sr., his mother Lena Rose Lucas, his brother Joseph Clay Hinton and his sisters Mary Emma Henry and Norma Jane Hinton.
A funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 28th at Pine Crest Funeral Home & Cemeteries.
