Dr Charles William Bodie, M. D. entered the presence of the glory of God and joined his ancestors in heaven on November 12, 2022 after an extended illness. “Doc,” as many of his friends belovingly called him, was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Louise Barbee Bodie (mother) and Belin Vorhees Bodie (father). He is survived by Belin Frederick Bodie and Judy Hester Bodie (brother and sister in law), Joy Elizabeth Bodie (niece), Brandon Frederick Bodie (nephew), Anne Badger Pursel ( cousin), Nancy Eason (cousin), and Karl Fry (Cousin). Bill graduated from UMS in 1961. He was inducted into the UMS Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. Dr. Bodie attended Southwestern at Memphis where he played collegiate basketball while attaining a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. After receiving his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Alabama School of medicine, Doctor Bodie interned in medicine and pediatrics at the University of South Alabama University Hospital (Mobile General Hospital) where he also completed a residency in pediatrics. Bill served as the Mobile County Public Health Woman-Infant-Children physician for several years prior to practicing family practice. He practiced primary care medicine in Mobile, AL for over 53 years. During some of those years, he also served in the Alabama National Guard medical core unit stationed in Mobile; Major Bill Bodie served as commander of this unit for several years. Bill loved to support many local civic and charitable organizations, UMS Sports teams, the youth of Mobile helping with camps such as Team Focus, and Government Street Presbyterian Church. Bill is a long time member of the Rotary Club of Mobile where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. “Doc” performed unseen acts of kindness, service, and love to many that are known only to their recipients. Dr Bodie treated all his patients the same, whether rich or poor. He loved life and will be missed by many. Now that he is released to be in God’s Holy Presence, may he be made whole and be in peace forever. The Bodie family wishes to thank all of the wonderful nurses, doctors, blood donors and all others who helped in the care for Bill during his prolonged illness. A service of witness to the resurrection will be held at Government Street Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Government Street Presbyterian Church, 300 Government Street, Mobile Alabama 36602 or to the charity of your choice.
