On Tuesday morning December 7th, 2021, Bobby L. Glass loving father, grandfather, and great grand father passed away at age 79. Bob was born on June 17, 1942, in Selma, Alabama to the Rev. C.L. Glass and Beulah L. Glass. He was raised in Mobile, Alabama where he attended Vigor High School. Following high school Bob married Rebecca Glass Warren and they had four children.
Bob had an entrepreneurial spirit and, in his lifetime, started several businesses including, service stations, Captain Bobs’ Fresh Gulf Seafood selling local seafood across the county, Real Estate and Retirement Center Development, and many other businesses that impacted people nationwide. In the 1970’s he turned his attention to serving the community and was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives District 105 followed by a four-year term in the Alabama Senate District 35. During his time in politics, he worked hard for the people of South Mobile County. Including playing a pivotal role in bringing Degussa and other industries to Mobile. In his life he had many honors and the privilege of meeting Presidents, Governors’ and other dignitaries and even presenting Elvis Pressley a recognition for his charitable work in the State of Alabama. But what he was most proud of was his children and grandchildren, he often referred to them as his tribe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. C.L, and his mother Beulah Glass, sister Thaila Glass Belcher, a son Robert A. Glass. He is survived by his brother Lawrence O. Glass, his children Renee Glass Wilson (Ricky Wilson), Melanie Glass Wyble, Mark E. Glass. Grandchildren; Jennifer P. Ward (Patrick), Stevanie C. King (Jefferson), Steven A Chestnut Jr. (Katie), Mark Ellis Glass, Hayden P. Glass, Lily R. Glass, Christopher M. Wyble, Allison R. Wyble. Great grandchildren; Jackson Ward, Sophia Ward, Avery Ward, Audrey King, Davis King.
A Memorial will be held on Sunday December 12, 2021, at Pine Crest Funeral Home at 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 36605. Visitation from 1pm – 2pm with a memorial service to follow.
In his later years dad had a calling for helping animals. We thought it would be a nice gesture to help some of the local shelters he supported.
