Beverly is survived by her husband, Michael D. Smith; son & daughter-in-law, Timothy Smith (Staci); her daughter & son-in-law, Michelle Johns (Ronald); her brother, Thomas Vereen (Sherry); her grandchildren, Nicholas Smith, Adrienne Smith, Cortland Johns, Cameron Johns & Ryan Olivia Johns, her beloved pet, Patches; as well as special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several close friends.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Stacy Vereen and Luverne Hall Vereen.
Beverly attended Little Flower Catholic School and graduated from Convent of Mercy High School in 1964. She worked at St. Francis Street United Methodist Church for 17 years and Alfa Insurance for 10 years. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, though more recently enjoyed Mass for the shut-ins.
Beverly loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved all of her many dogs over the years. She never met a stranger and had so many good friends. Beverly camped at Gulf Breeze RV Resort at Gulf Shores for nearly two decades. She loved spelling games and card games. She was an avid sports fan, especially watching Alabama Football and March Madness Basketball. She loved participating in the tradition of Mardi Gras in Bienville Square.
She made a special bond with Dr. Michael Meshad at Southern Cancer Center over 3 decades. Most recently she made many special bonds with her caregivers at Saad’s Hospice.
A visitation for Beverly will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 at Pine Crest Funeral Home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. The rosary will be held at 9:30 AM with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
