Bessie Jewel Holland Van Slyke

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William “Ray”; her brothers, Edgar Holland, Joe Holland, George Holland; her sister and best friend, Mae Holland Hickman; and her sons-in-law, Douglas Webster and Wayne Boatman.

Bessie leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Ray (Diana) Van Slyke; daughters, Nancy (Steve) Thomas and Valerie Boatman; and one grandson, Tony (Georgiana) Webster.

She was an active member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church for 15 years and was active in her earlier churches: Toulminville Baptist and Woodmont Baptist.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, with a funeral service at noon. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway.

Pallbearers are Steve Walker, Vaughan Drinkard, Charles Gurganus, Tony Webster, Shea Allen, and Barton Hickman.
