Jerry Jones and Anne Rowe met at a pay telephone booth, (which is no longer standing), at Government Street and Macy Place just west of Catherine Street. Anne was a special-needs protected person. Anne lived at Magnolia Court Apartments. The apartments are no longer standing – the apartment location would be behind the shopping center if they still existed. The shopping center is called Weinacker’s, Mobile’s oldest shopping center. Jerry and Anne used to go to the old shopping center before the new one. Anne had a little dog named Travel.
Jerry and Anne met November 13, 1977. “We got along good the first day on.” Jerry took very good care of Anne and they had a long, happy life together until she died unexpectedly. They were together for 44 ½ years or more. Anne died in a Mobile hospital from pneumonia and other complications.
“It came as a shock and great loss to me when Anne died. Anne’s last words to me before they put her to sleep were, ‘I love you, Jerry, and want to come back home to you.’ She said it over and over, it is so heartbreaking. I held her hand the minute she died. Anne, I love and miss you so much. I was hoping to get her back home in a few days but instead she did not wake back up. I love you, Anne, very much always, and will never forget you. Anne was saved and believed in Jesus her Savior. We will meet again in heaven one day soon.”
When Anne and Jerry met, Jerry lived on Mill Street in Crichton, Mobile, Alabama with his mother, Mrs. “Pat” Robertha Jones and his brother, “Pete” Franklin Delano Jones – both deceased and the house is now caving in. Jerry has been on dialysis since August 1, 2001.
Anne was preceded in death by her father, Sherman William Rowe; mother, Margarite Lawanna Walker Rowe; and one brother, Steve Rowe.
She is survived by her long-time partner, Jerry Jones; sisters, Janie Schisler (Kenneth, Sr.) and Pam Leitman; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Visitation for Anne will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West.
