Lawrence Kenneth Shurland passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 86 on April 18, 2024, in Mission Viejo, California. Born and raised in New York, Larry left a lasting impact on the world through his dedication and love for his family and friends.
Larry enjoyed a successful career as an executive at IBM, where he proudly served until retirement after graduating from Baruch College with a Business Degree. His commitment to excellence and passion for his work were evident throughout his professional journey.
Beyond his career, Larry was a devoted sports fan, faithfully supporting the New York Knickerbockers and Yankees, and later adopting a loyalty to the Los Angeles Lakers after moving to California. He also had a deep appreciation for travel, theater, and jazz music.
Larry's love extended to his cherished family. He is survived by his loving wife Marcia, his son Christopher, grandsons Quincy and Noah, siblings Carole and Carl, and nephews Mark and Craig Beazer. While Larry is mourned by his family, he is reunited in spirit with his predeceased sister Alma Beazer, son David, and parents Alma and Kenneth.
Services honoring Larry's life will be held in both California and New York. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairhaven Memorial Services in Mission Viejo, California. Additionally, a Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Flushing Cemetery in Queens, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Larry’s memory to the Save the Music Foundation at savethemusic.org.
Larry will be remembered for his warmth, unwavering support for those he loved, and his deeply dry sense of humor. His spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
