Janeen Evans

Janeen Evans was born on March 2, 1945 in Robstown, Texas to Les and Marion Philips. She had a younger sister, Melinda, and an older brother, David. Janeen graduated from Robstown High School, home of the "Cottonpickers.” After graduation, she moved into the YWCA in Corpus Christi and attended business college while working for the highway patrol.

In 1964, Janeen met her future husband, Stu, who was in Navy pilot training in Corpus Christi. They fell in love and after 3 months, she pinned Stu's wings on and they were married in a military ceremony in Robstown, Texas. They were then sent to Coronado, California where Stu was flying in preparation for Vietnam. After Stu’s two tours to Vietnam, they left the Navy and entered the civilian world with Stu going to work for Western Airlines.

Janeen was the consummate partner, mother, and homemaker. Being alone 70% of the time, Janeen became quite the independent person.

Janeen had to oftentimes “take care of business” with a quick and thoughtful decision on her own, something she became quite accomplished at doing.

Janeen’s hobbies included scrapbooking, genealogy, sewing, cooking, and reading voraciously. However, Janeen’s true joy was her family. She was the proud mother of three children – Stuart, Stephanie, and Steve – and doted on her 8 grandchildren, spoiling them with a full cookie jar or just talking with them on any subject, always ending the visit with "I love You.”

Janeen loved to travel, as she was a quiet adventurer, always open to going to new places. Janeen and Stu made many ocean and river cruises along with seeing the whole United States and parts of Europe with their wonderful friends. Janeen could be packed and ready to go fifteen minutes!

Janeen’s kind and sweet disposition rubbed off on everyone she met. She never spoke ill of anyone and even in her darkest hour preceding her death, Janeen never complained a single time. In fact, she continued her amazingly caring nature by often asking, “How are you doing?” or “How are you feeling?” If you were a friend of Janeen, you were a friend for life.

The world is not as nice today as it was with her in it, but she had tremendous faith in God and the belief of Heaven. From the verse in the Bible in the Book of Timothy: 'I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith...' This describes Janeen.

Janeen will be missed by everyone who knew her, and she will be in our hearts forever.
