

Jean was born on September 20, 1932, in Edinburg, TX to Alois J. and Regina (Scheffler) Moczygemba. She was the first born and had seven sisters.
Jean married Clarence William Mettlach in January 1951 and had seven children before his untimely death in January 1973. In 1976, she married Frank Niemietz, a long-time friend, and went on to enjoy 30 years of marriage until his death in 2005.
Jean worked for the McAllen Independent School District for over 20 years in the food service division until her retirement. After several of her children moved from the valley, she eventually moved to Hallettsville and was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville and was of part of the women’s group and enjoyed attending Bible study.
Jean loved planting and working in her flower beds and in the yard. She would enjoy cross stitching on cup towels and pillow cases to share with her family and friends. She looked forward to her trips with her sisters during their annual reunions with endless laughing sessions, along with sharing celebrations with her children and grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her children Patricia, Clarence (Dianna), Pauline, Phyliss (Dan), Gerald (D’Ann), and Pamela (Craig). Sisters Geraldine, Maryann, Bernice (Rick), Margaret, and Martha (Robert). Eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great -grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Daniel, husbands Clarence and Frank, daughter Priscilla, son-in-law’s Harold and Earl, granddaughter Daisy, great-grandson David, sisters Helen and Dorothy.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Tom Meeks, Brian Meeks, Will Mettlach, Josh Mettlach, Nathan Mullen, and Collin Boyer.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Service will follow at 12:00 at Funeraria del Angel.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery on 3611 N. Taylor Rd., Mission, TX
