Eleazar De La Garza

With his wife Anita De La Garza, they opened and operated Golden Chick in La Joya for 25 years. Eleazar, his friends and family knew him as Lali or Eli, graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1962. Before opening Golden Chick, Lali owned a barber shop, was a repo man, worked for 7-11/Circle K as a clerk, manager and supervisor for many years. Eleazar was a great husband and father. He and his wife, Anita De La Garza, just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past February. They were active members of Marriage Encounter and were mentors for Engaged Encounter. He was a Scout Master for Troops 63 and 66 where he taught and led many boys. He was a God fearing man who loved the Lord and was active in the ministry through out his life at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Santa Rosa and Our Lady of Perpetual Help of McAllen. His faith and love of our Lord Jesus Christ blossomed and matured at La Casa de mi Padre Christian Church, McAllen where he was an active member until being called home to the Lord.

Eleazar was preceded in death by his parents - Medardo and Juanita De La Garza and siblings-Lucia De La Garza and Medardo De La Garza Jr.

Left to cherish Eli’s memory are his wife Anita De La Garza, his children-Eleazar Eduardo (Eddie) De La Garza, Anita Denise Elizondo and her husband Eloy Elizondo; Sister – Elida Pardue and her husband Robert Pardue, his sister in-law Julia De La Garza; the mother of his grandsons, Zoila Ozuna; his grandchildren – Eleazar Nikolas De La Garza, Ivan Alexander De La Garza, Elyda Nicole Elizondo, Vanessa Anne Elizondo and Matthew Eloy Elizondo and many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers- John Nuchols, Juan Saldivar Jr., Antonio Martinez, Juan Amado Rodriguez, Rudy Perez, and George Guerrero.

Honorary Pallbearers: Mateo Alvarez, Felipe Saldivar and Frank Saldivar Jr.

Schedule for Services is as follows:

Monday, June 25, 2018 at Funeraria Del Angel, 3611 N. Taylor Rd, Mission, TX 78573 from 2:00 pm to 9:00pm. A service will be at 7:00 PM.

Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home, 26873 N. White Ranch Rd, La Feria, TX 78559 from 2:00pm to 9:00pm. A service will be at 7:00 PM.

Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Faith Assembly of God Church, 22510 N. EXPW 77, Harlingen, TX, 78535 at 10:00am.

Burial will follow at Santo Nombre Cemetery (which was established in part by Eleazar)

Cemetery Address is Orphanage Rd and Louisiana Rd, Santa Rosa TX 78593.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Funeraria Del Angel in Mission, TX.
