Paul Louis Nathanson, aged 89, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024, in Porter Ranch, CA after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Roberta; sons Joel and Scott (Mari); daughter Debbie (Heather); granddaughter Rachel and grandson Sean.
Born on September 26, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island, Paul moved to Los Angeles in 1963 to be with Roberta, the love of his life. Paul dedicated his life to education, serving as a teacher and school counselor. His passion for learning extended beyond the classroom; he held many interesting jobs and volunteer positions throughout the years, including reading to adults at the Jewish Home for the Aged (now known as Los Angeles Jewish Health) and to children at Head Start, leaving a lasting impact on those he served.
An avid fitness enthusiast, Paul found joy in maintaining an active lifestyle. He was a wrestler and body builder earlier in life and continued to lift weights at the gym well into his 80s. He loved to work with his hands and was very creative. He loved to garden and fix things, but his greatest passion was using his talents to help other people.
A funeral service for Paul will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Groman Eden Chapel. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Eden Memorial Park, 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, CA 91345. Following the service, we invite you to a Meal of Condolence held at the family's home.
In honoring Paul’s legacy, his family invites those who knew him to remember his kindness and generosity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Los Angeles Jewish Home (lajhealth.org/giving-support).
