Leah Granat was born on May 17th, 1940, in Russia to Pinchas (Pinkus) and Ester Wainbuch, who were refugees from Poland. Much of her childhood was spent in Sweden, until 1952, when HIAS sponsored their immigration to the United States. Leah married David Granat and lived with him in Los Angeles, where they raised their son, Sander, born in 1976.
Leah was very involved in the community, aiding and helping to care for her many friends, preparing food for various onegs and simchas, and assisting with event planning and procurement. She did this for several decades working with the sisterhoods of Valley Beth Shalom, Temple Beth Ami, Temple B’nai Hayim, and Temple Ramat Zion.
In 2016, a long-awaited grandchild, her granddaughter Linnea, was born, and Leah embraced grandmotherhood with the same zeal and care she’d applied to all other parts of her life. While her last years were marked by a long struggle with cancer and by David’s passing in January 2023, she lived life to the fullest to the end.
She is survived by her sister Sally, brother Oscar, son Sander, and granddaughter Linnea, and will be deeply missed by all of her many friends and loved ones.
A funeral service for Leah will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Groman Eden Mortuary located at 11500 Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 91345. Following the funeral service, a graveside ceremony will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Eden Memorial Park.
