Joe and Mary are together again. At the age of exactly 93 years Joseph passed away peacefully, on Saturday October 25, 2014.
Joe was born in Ravenna, Ohio, to Nellie and Tom De Palo (deceased), his two brothers predeceased him they were Michael and Frank.
He grew up in Ravenna and Kent Ohio. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in spring 1940. He attended Kent State University for a year.
When the war hit, he wanted to enlist right away but his father made him wait till July 1942. He joined the Army Aircorp, as it was called then.
He served overseas from July 1942 until he was discharged honorably in late November 1945. He was in Libya for a short time and then served the rest of the war in Foggia, Italy. He was able to live with family while in Italy because they had limited facilities. Many of his buddies lived with family as Foggia was very close to his family. He served as a supply sergeant.
He was discharged in November 1945 and came home to marry his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Mary Ann Labombardi. They wed on December 9, 1945 they remained happily married for 57 years until Mary’s death in early 2002. They eventually settled in Burbank, California in July 1956. They bought a house in Burbank where they raised their 2 daughters Joann and Annette. Joe had various office jobs over the years including a couple of years as a mail carrier. Later on he got an office job at ITT General Controls as inventory clerk and then became a customer service adviser for his remaining years until retirement. He worked at ITT for 23 year.
He is survived by his daughters Joann Prevatt (Dennis) and Annette Nye. His Grandchildren are Michael, Sherry Leach (Michael), Tom Prevatt, Candice Madieros (Craig) and Bryan Nye (Kari). He has 4 great-grandchildren, Sam and Ember Houston, Kayli Nye and Justin Haddix.
Joe will never be forgotten by all his family and friends. Everybody loved Joe for the warm, friendly giving person he was all his life.
