Born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 18, 1922, he was raised by his parents, Minerva and Bill Landy. He had two brothers, Sheldon and Donald. Harold served in the Air Force during WW2, and married Janice Michelson in 1946. They moved to Los Angeles in the '50s so that he could pursue his dream of becoming an educator in a place with 'no snow!' He co-owned a dry goods store in Cleveland and had the courage to leave the life he knew and take his family to the west coast. He attended Valley State College and also worked part-time to provide for his family. Harold became a teacher for LAUSD and Temple Beth Hillel in North Hollywood.
The Landys traveled abroad many times and hosted one hundred international families in their Woodland Hills home as a part of a peace--promoting agency called SERVAS. As a result, they had friends in Japan, India, Russia, Israel, and several European countries for their entire lives.
He loved photography, short story writing, reading, and working on cars. He was known for his dry humor and ability to make his listeners smile. He wrote three books and the subjects are: car repair, his travels, and a compilation of his short stories.
His wife Janice passed away in 2014. They are survived by their three children: Kathi, Marc and Joe, and Kathi's daughter, Rosie, husband Tony and two children Desmond and Jude.
