March 2, 1931 – May 30, 2022
Aaron Grossman, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, proud Mason and Shriner, and inveterate joke-teller, passed away May 30. Born in 1931 to Eva and David Grossman, Aaron was that rarity of his generation, a native Angeleno. Growing up in Boyle Heights, he attended Roosevelt High School, after which he joined the Army and served in Korea.
Upon his return from the service, he married his high school sweetheart Natalie Weitz. They were a loving couple for 61 years, with Natalie preceding Aaron in death. Together they had three children, Marc, Sheryl, and David. Aaron was a jack-of-all-trades of sorts, having worked as a television repairman, butcher, and auto mechanic, before opening and running his own auto repair business, which he operated for several years.
Aaron was a 32nd Degree Mason and worked to help many potential Masons through the process. He was a proud, active, and longtime member of the Al Malaikah Shriners where he ultimately rose to Potentate. During his time with the Shriners, he supervised the popular and successful Shrine Circus which benefited the Shriners Hospital for Children. Through his involvement with the Shriners, Aaron and Natalie developed warm personal friendships with many people and traveled the world. Aaron’s philanthropy also extended to the Cystic Fibrosis Association where he was a major fundraiser. A grade-A teller of jokes, Aaron seemed to have one for every occasion, a few of which, it is rumored, could even be told in mixed company.
He is survived by sons Marc (Shirley) and David. Daughter Sheryl (Larry) and granddaughter Julie preceded Aaron in death. Aaron also leaves loving grandchildren Lauren, Erik, Danielle, Jason (Cassie), Sydney (Ben), and Amy (Corey), great-grandchildren Silas, Shelby, Ari, Ada, and Wyatt, and son-in-law Larry. He will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
