Sheila Irene Matthews (nee Smith) of Mission, B.C., passed away suddenly January 23, 2018 at the age of 67 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. She is survived by Bill, her loving husband of 50 years, and her devoted sons, Steven (Leah), and Jason (Jenn). She will also be greatly missed by her five grandchildren Brendan, Amy, Hannah, Bethany and Lily.
Sheila was born on April 22nd 1950 in Moncton, NB to Arnold and Jean (Ramsay) Smith. She was raised in Amherst, NS, where she met and married William Matthews in 1968. Sheila and her husband Bill moved to British Columbia that same year, eventually settling in Mission in 1974. Sheila worked at Prospera Credit Union in Mission for many years before retiring in 2009.
Left to grieve are her three sisters, Gloria (Glen) Higgs,of Airdrie, AB, Diane (Bernie) Reid of Cambridge, ON, and Geraldine (Castle) Thompson, of Chilliwack BC, sister-in-law Donna (Barry) Chappell of Lower Sackville NS, along with many loved nieces and nephews. Sheila is predeceased by her two brothers Walter Smith and Wayne Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Cedar Valley Mennonite Church. Inurnment is planned for a later date at Hatzic Cemetery in Mission. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
Sheila was our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be incredibly missed.
