Ronald Henry Leck

Ronald Henry Leck died peacefully on Wednesday December 5, 2012 in Abbotsford Hospital. He was born August 8, 1919 in Point Grey , BC, son of Henry P. and Agnes Oliphant Leck. Ron was educated in various Vancouver schools followed by business courses at UBC, University of Toronto, and University of Manitoba. He started working for Sherwin Williams Paint Company in the Vancouver office in October 1938. Ron spent his working life with the same company in varied positions and locations throughout Canada. The only break was his service in the RCAF from 1941 until discharge in August 1945 and then his work took him to Brandon, Manitoba. Ron took early retirement in 1977 while in Winnipeg and then returned to Vancouver. Ron met his future wife, Leila (Lee) Kathleen McDiarmid, in Brandon in 1945. They were married September 13, 1947 and celebrated 65 years together. Ron is survived by his loving wife and best friend Lee, their four children, Noreen (Ken), Harris (Fran), Margaret and Chris (Shelley). There are also 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and their families. Ron will be missed by family and friends and will be remembered with love and happy thoughts. Ron was predeceased by baby brother Alvan, sisters Florence, Claudia and half-sister Lois and his much loved son-in-law Neil Van Duffelen. Ron was involved in Kiwanis, NWCT, United Church, Liberal politics, the Old Guard of SWP and Totem Holdings (a group of men he had known since childhood). His hobbies were woodworking, reading about politics and economics, music and swimming. He loved to travel and he had many great trips with Lee. Also they enjoyed day trips, picnics and walking. A Celebration of Life will be held at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home on Thursday January 10, 2013 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Mission Branch, 33079 B First Avenue, Mission, V2V 1G2, would be appreciated.
