Pauline was born at home in St. Louis, Saskatchewan to Joe and Mary Koponyas, on April 23, 1927; she married Steve on October 19, 1944, and then moved to Mission, BC with their son Peter in 1949, following her parents and leaving behind the harsh times and bitter cold of the prairies.
When Steve passed away in 1986, she sold the family home on 6th Ave and moved to her little apartment on 2nd Avenue, Minerva Gardens and lived there for 28 happy years. She loved her apartment, but when she could no longer live on her own, she moved to Tabor Home in Abbotsford in 2016. Mom dearly missed her apartment on 2nd Avenue in Mission as that was always her home. There is so much truth in,” There is no place like home”
Our Mom was so loved for her unconditional love, beautiful soul, kindness to all, wonderful cooking, delicious baking and always welcoming people to her home for coffee and to enjoy her goodies. So many fond memories were made around her kitchen table with little children playing all around. Mom loved everyone, especially her grandchildren and great-children. Family meant everything to Mom, she cherished every moment with them.
She had such a love for gardening, right to the end she wanted to plant cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and yellow beans to make mustard beans. Mom always had a green thumb and could grow anything, preserving everything she could from jams to pickled beans. She loved her flowers too, carnations were her favorite; a bouquet of flowers would light up her day for weeks on end.
Mom loved the old time country music shows, sang along with all the traditional hymns and loved to listen to Johnny Cash, Elvis, Burl Ives and so many more.
Pauline was predeceased by Husband Steve in 1986, first born son Raymond in 1945, son Peter in 2005, her parents Joe and Mary Koponyas, brothers, Joe, Gilbert, Albert and sister Winnie.
