He was born in the spring of 1939 on April the 14th to the late Pauline Price and Reece Alexander Helms in Indian Trail, NC...which is where the many hats that Robby wore began.
After graduating with the class of 1957 at Unionville High School, he went on to do the thing he was the most well known for.... HAIR!
He was the owner operator of multiple hair salons in Charlotte, as well as the owner of "The D-Mar College of Beauty". At the top of his field, he served his community and was involved with the NC Beauty Pageant Association. He went on to serve as the President and Chairman of the National Hairdresser Association.
As if being so accomplished in his career wasn't enough, he was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 50 years. There he held many positions with the Priesthood and participated in many activities including road shows, camping, and the youth program. Through his years with the church, he touched many lives, and in his retirement, he faithfully served 13 years at the Columbia, SC Temple.
Robby adored his wife Janice throughout their nearly 60 years of marriage. Even up to his final hours, he reminded her of his love, appreciation and admiration for her. His family, ever growing throughout the years was always his main focus and number one priority.
In his last years, he became particularly close to great-grandchildren, who called him Poppy. He looked forward to their visits where they would bring him goodies and humor him with "old man jokes"!
In his spare time, he enjoyed watching nature shows, Australian Rules Football and always looked forward to the Olympics. The opening and closing ceremonies were his favorite.
Having a knack for creating art and sculptures served him well, especially in his profession. His creative mind was always pondering over useful inventions, and the family joked that he was "tinkering with something again"!
Family and friends will truly miss and cherish his witty sense of humor, sarcastic quip that produced laughter, his sweet smile and generous heart.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Morrison Alexander Helms and his daughter, Erin Nicole Helms.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Moon Helms; his children, Tracy (Jay) Helms Haynes, Robby (Sharon) Reece Helms Jr. aka Todd, Amber (Stewart) Helms McIlroy; grandchildren, Kaycie (Harold) McKibben, Ryan and Joshua Burrell, Caitlyn (David) Balder, Alexis (Kristopher) Boyd, Zachary McIlroy, Cobi Helms, Ryan (Amanda) Haynes - bonus grandson; 6 great-grandchildren, Luke, Ryleigh, Jonah, McKenna, Madelyn and Delaney; 5 bonus great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Madyson, Everett, Perry and Hannah; and brother, Terry (Betty) Lane Helms.
