Anthony Paul Carlin passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017, after a very courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Janet Rae Greenwell; and four daughters, Cynthia and husband, George Wiley, and grandsons, Keifer and Nolan; Brenda Carlin; Lisa Carlin; and Paula and husband, Tim Reilly, and granddaughter, Jessica. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Catherine Mulligan, and his father, Edward Anthony Carlin of Peekskill, New York, as well as his six brothers and sisters, Edward Carlin, Virginia Brooks, Raphael Carlin, Leo Carlin, Elaine Fiora, and Margaret Margand.
Mr. Carlin grew up in Peekskill, New York and was a graduate of Michigan State University. He served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War. Mr. Carlin was employed in the Insurance industry and was on the cutting edge of an emerging industry in Captive Insurance with his employment at American Risk Management. He retired from their Cleveland, Ohio office in 1989, and relocated with Janet to Leesburg, Florida, where he enjoyed many activities including travel, cycling, and especially golf, achieving a “hole in one” at the Monarch Golf Course. Mr. Carlin was active in the community creating a program to donate bicycles to the Boys and Girls Club of Leesburg and collected over 100 bikes. He also volunteered with the “Quad Squad”, a group that enabled wheelchair bound people to bowl. He was well known for his generosity and sense of humor and jokes.
One of his favorite stories was of how he met Janet in 1958, in Queens, New York, and decided on first meeting the young lady from Louisville, Kentucky that “that’s my girl!” They were married June 27, 1959, and made many moves over the course of their marriage including New York, Kentucky, Ohio, and Florida; finally relocating in Mint Hill, North Carolina to be close to family in their senior years. They found a wonderful faith community and home in St Luke Catholic Church. Mr. Carlin will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to his wife and family.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care by Irene Robinson, and her daughters, Charisma and Tasha, and Bonnie Phillips. They are angels on earth and have become second family.
