March 20, 1940 – November 30, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Henning Erickson on November 30, 2024, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Born on March 20, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Robert lived a remarkable life full of adventure, accomplishment, and love.
Robert was a devoted father to his daughter Anna, son-in-law, Kyle Olmstead and his son Stefan, daughter-in-law Christina Erickson. He was a proud grandfather to Kaden, as well as to Stefan and Christina’s three sons: Zachary, Michael, and Lincoln. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marianne Erickson, as well as his parents, Agnes and Henning Erickson, and his sister, Ann Louise Basquin.
A graduate of Mound High School, Robert earned both his undergraduate and MBA degrees from Dartmouth College. He built a distinguished career with Mobil Oil International, serving as Managing Director of Zambia, Norway, and Nigeria. His work took him and his family around the globe, creating a legacy of leadership and dedication.
Robert had a great love for art, animals, architecture and nature, especially his beloved Ten Mile Lake. He enjoyed collecting Mobil Oil memorabilia, traveling the world, and was a loyal student of total quality management, even co-writing a book on the subject and its role in the oil industry.
Robert’s zest for life was evident in his love of hosting gatherings and spending time with friends and family. Whether it was skiing in the Alps, mushroom hunting in Norway, celebrating midsummer festivals in Sweden, or enjoying Sunday afternoons at the beach in Nigeria, Robert lived life to the fullest. His fondness for Sweden, his heritage, and his steadfast values of freedom, honesty, and hard work shaped the way he lived and loved.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Monday, December 16, 2024, with visitation beginning at 12pm at Sunset Funeral Home & Sunset Cemetery, followed by light refreshments and appetizers at the Twin Cities 400 Tavern.
Robert’s family will forever remember his wisdom, kindness, and passion for life. He taught us to ride bikes, chop down Christmas trees in Sweden, and navigate life’s challenges with constructive advice and positivity. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or ASPCA.
