She was born on November 9, 1926 to Daisy (Eleanor) Conley Henke and Edward Henke in Cascade Township, Olmsted County, MN, near Rochester. She attended rural school District 27 through 8th grade. She was a 1944 honor graduate of Rochester Senior High School, and teacher training graduate in 1945, St. Charles, MN, and taught in rural schools in Winona and Olmsted Counties. On November 27, 1946 she married Calvin Baumbach at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles MN. Calvin’s career with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad led to living in several locations: Mapleton, IA; Ghent, Elgin, New Ulm and Minneapolis, MN. After his retirement they lived briefly in Spokane, WA, and Dallas, TX. They moved back to Minneapolis where she was a faithful and long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Eleanor was an avid sewer and crafts person. Her hobby was sending birthday cards and letters to all her family and friends, and making birthday cakes, cookies and pies. She is survived by her son Ronald (Ann) Baumbach, daughter Wendy Baumbach Frese; grandchildren Alicen (Cameron) Mills, Meghan (Brad) Webber, Aaron Baumbach, Emily (Andrew) Baumbach and Adam Frese; great-grandchildren Penelope, Violet, Harley, Owen, August and Henry; and many dear friends and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband Calvin Baumbach, daughter Cynthia Baumbach, parents Daisy and Edward Henke, brother John (Allene) and sisters Gertrude (Clarence) Schwanke, and Dorothy (Loren) Graskamp, and granddaughter Abby Grace Frese.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 1:00 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, 610 Broadway St., Minneapolis, with viewing one hour before the service. A graveside service will also be held following the church service at the Sunset Cemetery, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd NE, Chapel of Peace, Building 5D.

Church seating will be according to Minnesota State guidelines for social distancing and wearing facemasks. For those attending who will not be participating in congregational hymns, the last few pews will be reserved for your seating. Our hope Is that service participation/viewing options will help your decision whether to attend either the church service or graveside service or both. And we respect any decision not to attend.
