Barbara Marian Stroup was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1939. She was the youngest of three girls and her Grandpop’s favorite. Barbie grew up in a Christian home and trusted Jesus as her Savior, loving and following Him all her life.
In Barbie’s journey after high school, she worked as a secretary for a group of scientists at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. She then married Lindy Ergino, and they had three children, Susan, Janet, and Robert. Barbie was very artistically gifted and spent her days creating a warm and loving home.
Barbie lived many years in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, serving faithfully in her church and teaching her children to love the Lord. She later married Thomas Stroup and moved to Minnesota to be near her two daughters.
Even though Barbie spent her last years in the Midwest, she was truly an East Coast girl at heart. Barbie lived in a Philadelphia row home as a child, enjoyed the beauty of the Pennsylvania landscape, and loved the boardwalk and Jersey shore.
At the age of 82, Barbie peacefully entered the presence of Jesus. She was surrounded by her children who spent precious time with Mom as they talked to her, shared music, prayed, and read Scripture.
Barbie is preceded in death by her parents and sister. She is survived by 3 children: Susan Johnson (Ronn), Janet Sommers (Daniel), and Robert Ergino (Becky). Barbie will be greatly missed by 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and her sweet Yorkie companion, Mandy.
Barbie treasured reading her Bible each morning and listening to cherished Christian music. She also took wonderful care of her beloved pets. Barbie will be remembered for her creative and artistic abilities, keen mind, attention to detail, generosity, and most of all, her great love for family and the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the University of Northwestern Nursing program, PO Box 130517, St Paul, MN 55113-0005.
A private family burial and memorial service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022.
