Doris Ann Moore, USAF (Retired) passed away on September 21, 2019 at Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center at the age 61. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by her family. Doris was born in Savannah, Georgia on February 20, 1958 to Delmon Miller Sr. and Grace Payne-Miller. Doris was preceded in death by two husbands James Moore and Carl Thorpe, both parents, brother Robert Miller and her son Carl Thorpe Jr.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her remaining children: Tiara Moore, Crestview FL and James Moore Jr., Niceville, FL, her sisters: Betty Lewis-Slack (William), Savannah, GA, Diane Drawsand (Perry),Cypress, TX and Leona Miller, Savannah, GA, her brothers: Delmon Miller Jr. (Shirley), Savannah, GA, and George Miller (Victoria), Rensselaer, NY. A daughter-in-law Tawanna Jones, sister-in-law, Theresa Miller and grandchildren: Jovante Jones, Kaileb Mitchell, and Levi Cunningham. In addition, a host of devoted nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. As a result of her generous spirit, a beautiful personality and a smile that could light up a room and melt your heart, she was loved by many. Doris influence will remain in the lives and hearts of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Doris graduated from Richard Arnold High School, in Savannah, Georgia with honors. She attended Armstrong State College where she received a Bachelor of Nursing Degree. She later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service to her country. Doris later went back to school where she received a Master’s in Health Administration. She worked for a traveling Nursing Agency, she was a Oncology Nurse and an Operating Room Nurse for several hospitals over the years until her illness. Her love of animals was demonstrated in the care she offered to her dogs that found a home with Doris and her family. She was known for her integrity, work ethic, and a beautiful sense of humor.
The family of Doris Anne Moore would like to thank and acknowledge the Doctors and Nurses of both Twin City Hospital and Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center for their around-the-clock care of their love one.
A memorial service of celebration of her life will be held at National Cremation & Burial Society, 5641 Hwy 90 West, Milton, Florida on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 2 o’clock. The family is asking everyone to wear something pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
