It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William John Long III, known affectionately as Bill, on October 12, 2024. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who touched the lives of many with his warmth and humor.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lois, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. He was a proud father to his children, Christopher Kowalski and his wife, Susan, and Kimberly Buck and her husband, Jameson. Bill's heart was full when it came to his grandchildren, William, Jack, Kaylyn, and George, whose lives he enriched as their beloved "Apa" and grandfather.
He is predeceased by his sister Carol Jorgensen and his much-loved pets Daisy, Simon, and Sally. Bill leaves behind his brothers Richard and Robert Long, as well as his nieces Dana Cobe and her husband, Todd, and Victoria Beauregard. His nephew Robert Jorgensen and his wife, Marla, also mourn his passing, along with the extended Henderson, Davidson, Polizotti, Tucker, and Long families.
A proud veteran, Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea. Following his military service, Bill enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an auditor for New York State.
Bill was an avid reader and traveler, and his sense of adventure led him to explore Scotland, Ireland, England, Iceland, and along the Danube River. He also reveled in the beauty of Acapulco and Canada, and within the U.S., he enjoyed visiting Texas, Arizona, the southeast, and, most especially, Maine.
A lifelong lover of New York City, Bill had a passion for theater, British mysteries, and movies. He was an enthusiastic follower of the S&P 500 and a connoisseur of classical and jazz music. His deep love for all things British made him a true anglophile, and he found joy in immersing himself in English culture.
