We are deeply saddened to share the passing of William Richard Fagan, of Ridge, NY. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Bill, age 87, passed away on April 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 9, 1936, Bill was the son of the late William R. Fagan and Edna M. Fagan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen E. Dalton and his brother, Richard L. Fagan.
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise Elizabeth Fagan; children, William J. Fagan (Carole), Robert J. Fagan (Maureen), Mary E. Hoffmann (Henry), and Joseph R. Fagan (Maryellen); 9 grandchildren, William, Kristen, Conor, Shannon, Ryan, Jacob, Owen, Liam, and Riley.
Bill grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn playing stickball in the streets and enjoying summers in Breezy Point. He attended St. Francis Prep High School and ran on the track team. Upon high school graduation, Bill began working for Equitable Life as a clerk for two years then he worked for the New York Telephone Company as an installer/technician for 42 years. Some of his interesting installation jobs were for President Carter, Governor Nelson Rockefeller, Leona Helmsley, and the Playboy Club. His stories of home installations were always interesting, and customers showed their gratitude with gifts of a private classical piano performance and tea with Miss America.
Bill served in the Navy Reserve from 1958 to 1962 and was stationed in Floyd Bennet Field, Brooklyn. During this time, he was an aviation electrician, flying in the Neptune P2V-5F, using equipment to locate submarines.
Bill and Louise raised their family in Stewart Manor, NY for 35 years. He volunteered as a player agent for the Stewart Manor Little League. He retired to Orient Point, NY where he lived for 25 years, and recently moved to Ridge, NY. While in Orient Point, Bill volunteered at John’s Place in Greenport, a winter homeless shelter, helping individuals receive a hot meal and a place to sleep. Bill thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing the Long Island Sound, researching his genealogy, and rooting for the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and the New York Islanders.
In honoring Bill’s memory, let us carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, April 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, New York 11764. Funeral mass at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 25th at St. Mark's RCC, Shoreham, NY. An Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
