Linda P. Seabury

On January 6th, 2024, Linda Seabury passed away after battling a long illness. Remarkably, she was the recipient of a dual liver- kidney transplant in 2003, and she spent her additional twenty, gifted years wisely. She was 80 years old.

Linda was born at Staten Island Hospital on November 25, 1943, to Isabel and James Moorman, and she was a big sister to Pamela. She was raised in Sunnyside, Queens, where she attended the local schools and would later go on to graduate from Hunter College in Manhattan with an associate degree. After she married her husband, Thomas Seabury, she moved to Woodside, Queens, where she lived for much of her life before enjoying her senior years on Long Island.

Her first job was as a hostess for the 1964-1965 World’s Fair, followed by many years working as a secretary for Equitable Life. During the 80’s and early 90’s she worked as an administrative assistant at Saint Sebastian’s R.C. Church in Woodside. In 1993, she would move on to work at Woodside on the Move, a local development organization. After taking time to help raise her grandchildren, a job she would tell you was her most important, she returned to work at Infant Jesus Church in Port Jefferson.

Linda had a strong belief that people should contribute to the community in which they live. At the 1979 Sunnyside Flag Day Parade, while leading a group of pom-pom girls from P.S. 199, Linda met Tony Lana and agreed to volunteer her time to the Sunnyside Drum Corps. In addition to developing the pom-pom line to stand at the front of the band, she took on the task of preparing newsletters, typesetting and layout for the annual booster book, and formulated plans to start a baton twirling class for the younger members of the community which would go on to become a New York State National Baton Twirling Association winning program. As a member of the Board of Directors, Linda helped with the foundation of the band and set the standards for the drum corps. She recruited members, fundraised, and helped to earn the Corps recognition from the community, businesses, and political leaders. In 1994, the Sunnyside Drum Corps was presented with the prestigious Eleanor Roosevelt Community Service Award, and in 2011, the Kiwanis Club of Sunnyside honored Linda for her many years of service to the Drum Corps. She was also recognized by the Governor of New York for her volunteer service to the youth in the community.

After moving to Long Island to be closer to her family, Linda’s passion for service led her to join the Joan of Arc Columbiettes where she again volunteered her time until she was no longer able to.

Linda is predeceased by her husband Thomas Seabury. She is survived by her three children Kimberly Stacel, Matthew (Catherine) Seabury, and Carolyn (James) Kirwan, one stepdaughter Jennifer, and five grandchildren Phoebe, Deirdre, Dane, Maeve, and Mairead. Her life will be carried on in the memories she shared with them and the lessons they learned from her.

Services will be held at O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place from 4-8pm on January 16th, 2024, and Mass will be said at Infant Jesus Church at 10am on January 17th, 2024.
