RIDGE: It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Helen Anderson, age 95, of Ridge, NY, on January 9th, 2024. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving children. Helen leaves behind a storied legacy of love and laughter, having been a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Helen was born on March 9th, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Svend Lyttik and Rosina “Rose” (Johanna Ruckersfeldt) Schock. She was raised in Brooklyn by Herbert and Rose Schock with her siblings, Robert Schock and Rose McGinn. In her adult life, she worked for the New York Telephone Company until she married her late husband, Dennis Anderson, in November of 1946, and started their family. Helen had 5 beautiful children, Joy and William Bryant, Dennis and Carmel Anderson, Carol and Mark Zienert, Debra and Glenn LaMay, and the late Paul and his wife Rose Anderson. In addition to staying home to raise her children, Helen was a foster mother for disabled children.
Helen had a heart of gold. The love she possessed was not only felt by her children and family, but all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, and ability to bring people together.
Along with her parents and her siblings, Helen is predeceased by her husband, Dennis Anderson, son Paul Anderson, and grandson John Anderson. Left to cherish Helen’s memory are her daughters, Joy, Carol, and Debra, her son, Dennis, her grandchildren, Doreen, Julia, Katelyn, Kristen, Michael, Matthew, Jacob, Ryan, Bridget, and Maria, her great-grandchildren, Christie, Maverick, Charlotte, Kai, and Maggie, and her great-great-grandson, Theodore.
Helen was many things to many people, and the sorrow of her absence will be felt by all. More than the sadness, though, all who knew her will carry her unending love and zest for life with them for years to come.
For those who wish to honor Helen’s memory, donations can be made in her name to a children’s charity of your choice.
