Russell was born to Russell George Cowan Sr. and Violet Minnie Hock in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Russ graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah and worked for many years at the Salt Lake Hardware Company as a salesman.
He later spent many years as a Corrections Officer working for the Utah State Department of Corrections at the Bonneville halfway house.
He was a veteran of the Korean war serving on the USS Bremerton.
He married Janice Lund Cowan In Las Vegas, Nevada in 1950 and together they raised their son, Scott.
His greatest loves in life were his family, his beloved University of Utah Utes and his many many friends he knew throughout the Intermountain West.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Mary) and his beloved grandchildren, Benjamin (Mackenzie) and Melissa whom he loved dearly.
Preceded in death by his wife, Janice, his mother Violet, his father, Russ, and his sister Dorothea Campbell.
Russ will always be remembered as a kind and caring soul who always would go out of his way to praise you and encourage you.
Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 S Highland Dr. Millcreek, UT on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11 AM. There will be a viewing one hour before services in the chapel.
Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Disabled American Veterans or the Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
