Rich grew up in the Holladay area with four sisters. He graduated from Skyline High School then attended the University of Utah for his undergraduate and graduate degree in Physical Therapy.
He started his career as a physical therapist at St. Mark's Hospital and in private practice with his dad who was also a PT. Rich then found a passion in the home health and hospice field. He spent decades helping people as both a physical therapist and administrator and ending his career as the COO for Bristol Hospice. Rich was adored by all his coworkers and patients.
Rich had two children, Keli and Lance, during his first marriage. He was simply the best dad out there. He later married Kathy Dahlquist, and they spent these last 23 years traveling the world, enjoying great food and wine and spoiling their grandchildren.
Rich loved to travel and explore places off the beaten path. He climbed Machu Picchu, bicycled around Europe, saw the northern lights, explored Cuba and Vietnam just to name a few. He was an avid triathlete in his younger years, and he loved to golf. He and Kathy took the grandkids on trips to Hawaii, Yellowstone, and camping around Utah. He loved his Utah Utes and the NY Yankees and attending games with family.
More than anything he loved his kids and grandkids. His house was always the place to be, and he treated his kids' friends like they were his own. Rich was kind, generous, fun and had great taste. We all just loved him so much.
Rich is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Keli (Dan) Seder, grandkids Ben, Brady, Kate, Nolan, Winnie and Tate. Stepchildren Cory, Erica and Tabitha Rain, mother-in-law Donna, sisters Denise Ludlow, Diane O’Niel, Janet Bailey (and their spouses), numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Lance, parents and sister Jeanne.
A celebration of Rich’s amazing life will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Knudson Park, 6293 Holladay Blvd East (right behind the Cotton Bottom, one of his favorites) from 3:00-6:00 pm. Please dress in your favorite Utah Utes gear. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity supporting the youth in your area.
